People from the west side who scoff at the idea of having to drive all the way to the east side for some flame tacos and hand crafted Margaritas, you no longer have to worry. Earlier this month, Barrio Queen, a local Mexican chain in Phoenix announced it will be opening it’s 6th and 7th restaurants in Avondale and Glendale.
Queens already has locations at Desert Ridge, Old Town Scottsdale, and Gilbert. There are also two locations currently under construction in Tempe Marketplace and Queens Creek, both due to open in December just in time for the holiday season.
The two new locations will be the first time the Mexican restaurant enters the West Valley, “We’ve had a lot of requests to bring the Barrio to the west side,” the management said in a press statement.
The Glendale restaurant is set to open next spring in time for Spring Training. The location is at Arrowhead Towne Center near 75th Avenue and Bell Road where Rock Bottom Brewery used to be. Scheduled to be a whopping 7,000 square feet, the Glendale location will be the largest Barrio Queen yet.
While there is much anticipation over the Glendale spot, there are fewer details regarding the Avondale location. At the moment the only known details are that it will open sometime in the second quarter of 2020.
Barrio Queen originally opened in 2011, started by Silvana Salcido Espraza. Espraza, who also owns and runs arrio Cafe Gran Reserva on Grand Avenue, as well as Barrio Cafe in Phoenix and at Phoenix Sky Harbor, parted ways with Barrio Queen in 2014. The restaurant is now owned by Steven Rosenfield and his wife Linda Nash.
