Not a safe space. They allow sexual predators to stay, while kicking out women who are assaulted and ask for help. Avoid this place.

My friend and I were assaulted at LUXX CLUB in downtown Phoenix last night. We went to dance, to celebrate Halloween. Shortly after entering, my friend Cristal was grabbed aggressively on the arm by a man at the bar, twisting it, and spilling her drink all over her body. “Do not touch me”, she said. He chuckled, and she walked away to me, telling me what happened. We tried to enjoy the rest of our night. Later, as I was walking to the bar, a man stopped me and grabbed the back of my head and his friends head, pushed our faces together and yelled “Kiss! Kiss!” “Do not fucking touch me”, I sternly say to him. He grabs my arm, “C’mon, kiss him”. I break away and smack the back of his head. I go to my friend and tell her what happened, pointing to the men. “That’s the same guy who grabbed me”, she says. We go to a security guard at this point, telling him we were both assaulted by the same man. I’ve worked in many bars. At this point, you kick the dude out. End of story. But the security guard pretends to listen, then tells us he can’t do anything because he didn’t see it. Fuck that. So we tell another security guard, and he “can’t do anything”, so he gets his manager. The manager then proceeds to tell Cristal and I that we need to follow him. Confused, we do so, and are marched past the man who assaulted us, outside the front door, to the curb. We were literally treated like suspects, and paraded in front of the sneering faces of the man who touched us and his friends. Outside, the manager asks us what happened. Obviously emotional, Cristal does her best to explain her part of the story, but is constantly cut off by the manager. She’s getting overwhelmed, when he says “Look, you need to calm down. This isn’t a big deal”. WHAT. “Yes, yes it is”, I say. “You’re making this into a much bigger deal than it needs to be”, he casually responds. Cristal becomes very upset by this, and is starting to cry. “You know what, fuck you”, he says to her. I get between the two of them. “Do NOT speak to her like that.” “Fuck you, see ya!” he states as he literally throws his hands in the air and walks away. We then see two cops standing outside, and attempt to explain the situation to them. Utterly disinterested and unbelieving of us, and annoyed that Cristal was emotional, would be the best ways to describe them. When Cristal tells the cops she wants to identify the man, she’s told we aren’t allowed back in the bar. We were kicked out. At this point, we went home.
Believe women when they tell you this shit. NO. It is not normal to be grabbed at the club. NO. It is not wrong to complain to security. NO. It is not okay to tell us we are “overreacting” when we feel unsafe.
Cristal, I love you so much and admire you to the ends of the earth for refusing to back down when men in positions of power were denying you agency.
LUXX in downtown Phoenix and the cops we talked to do NOT care about the stories, experiences or emotions of women who feel unsafe or who are grabbed without consent by men. But this is the story of many clubs, bars, schools, and streets that women exist in. And it is NOT okay.
