Phoenix Rising FC Soccer Team is currently waiting for their new stadium to finish ins Scottsdale, AZ just north of Phoenix. The MLS stadium will be near the 202 in Scottsdale. The soccer team is already an MLS expansion franchise. The $250 million stadium will seat approximately 21,000 fans. The team says the goal will be to create a stadium that maximizes the fan experience in Arizona’s 100 plus degree weather. The new venue for Phoenix Rising will also be an environmentally friendly stadium.

MLS has committed to adding 5 teams after Los Angeles FC. Nashville and Miami have been awarded 2 of 5 teams, Detroit and Sacramento are the finalists for No. 26. There is no timetable for the identification of clubs No. 27 or 28, so far.

The most noticeable factor of the stadium designed by Populous and Gould Evans is what it doesn’t have, a ROOF. Phoenix is attractive to MLS because it’s the 12th-largest media market in the country, but it’s also the nations hottest major city, and unfortunately MLS plays through the summer. The FC co-chairman of Phoenix Rising, Brett Johnson had this to say in a statement; “We are excited for the fans to see the innovative, one-of-a-kind design with special attention paid to maximizing shade and airflow in the stadium to ensure player and fan comfort.”  The soccer venue is going to be built on the northeast side of Arizona State University.

The design hopes to copy the intimate game experience of most European stadiums in the international game of soccer. There are also hopes to provide fans with an abundance of shade that will cover the bowl, concourse and any area that surrounds the stadium.  The stadium will also include entrances throughout the stadium that are going to allow airflow during the unbearable summers in Arizona. Although the stadium will not have a retractable roof, there will be water walls to cool down fans.  Phoenix Rising is looking to have the stadium ready for the 2021 season.
