Oktoberfest is coming in September and we here at AZ Local could not be more excited as the fall is slowly approaching and the holidays are right around the corner as well. Luckily, the true Oktoberfest experience is making its way to Phoenix this year for 2019. Grab your lederhosen and dirndls friends, as we gear up to commence this beer-drinking celebration!
What Is Oktoberfest?
Oktoberfest is a celebration that takes place across the globe during the fall. This Bavarian tradition dates all the way back to 1810 at the commencement of the Royal Wedding, and for all these years, the celebration has been essentially the same. With plenty of food, music, traditional wear, and of course, beer, this authentic celebration is one of the most unique we know. Heck, they’ve even made a movie about it!
When Is It?
Oktoberfest is set to take place on October 6 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. in Downtown Phoenix. It will be on a much smaller scale (around 750 guests) to help better create a more authentic experience for those who are looking for it. There are many large Oktoberfest celebrations in the valley, so their aim is to aim for cultural significance rather than a massive number of guests.
Who Is In Charge?
HDE Agency is in charge of this Oktoberfest and they have been producing events for Downtown Phoenix for the past decade. They are one of the top promoters in Downtown Phoenix and they give a lot back to the community. The company that is in charge of this festival has experience producing Oktoberfest celebrations already, as they are in charge of the SanTan Brewing Company Oktoberfest, which has been around for over 12 years now!
What Can I Expect?
There will be three main Oktoberfest vendors at this celebration. Brat Haus from Scottsdale will be selling authentic, German pretzels, Eur Haus food truck will be selling schnitzel, spaetzle, pretzels, and brats, and the Copper Blues restaurant from Phoenix will be selling pretzels, brats, and cheese. Get ready to carb up!
Of course, the main highlight is the beer. Some of the many different varieties that will be available at Phoenix Oktoberfest include Veltins, Weihenstephan, Bitburger, Zum Franziskaner, and SanTan.
In terms of entertainment, the Funkhaus Brass Band will be keeping the Oktoberfest spirit alive with authentic polka music throughout the event. At the very end of the night, there will be a variety of contests, including the stein-holding contest and pretzel-eating contest. The beer maid costume will be the last competition of the night with a $100 cash prize! Make sure to plan out your outfits to the best of your ability if you hope to win!
There is no doubt that this Oktoberfest is going to be an absolute smash! If you’re interested in checking out Oktober Fest in Downtown Phoenix this year, make sure to head over to their website so that you can get more information on tickets, times, and everything else.
