It may not be the most lavish restaurant you’ve ever seen, but it lives up to the phrase ‘less is more.’ Located right near the downtown area, this small and cozy little taco shop serves up some of the best tacos in the Valley. Each taco is dished up hot on either a flour or corn tortilla with your choice of carne asada, chicken, or al pastor. In addition to that, they even have Mexican coke for you to wash it down with. Options include the molida lamb, chipotle steak, coffee beef, chicken tinga with mole among others. For taco lovers, this is the Saint Andrews of taco shops.
The Modern Margarita

If you’re looking for a place to celebrate or just enjoy a fun happy hour, you can’t go wrong with Modern Margarita. The ‘double M’ offers a wide variety of bar food including tacos that are perfect for a small gathering. A product of Mill Management Group, Modern Margarita offers gourmet tacos along with burgers, salads, and a number of shareable plates, as well as their ‘rockin guacamole.’ This place takes your generic taco and adds its own flare. Take the Shrimp tacos for example, served with avocado crema, purple cabbage, corn salsa and cotija cheese. As the name suggests, there is an emphasis on Margaritas. Each Monday is Margarita Monday where guests can get $3 off all margs.

Located right in central Phoenix is the brainchild of one of Arizona’s most revered and James Beard award winning chef, Silvana Salcido Espraza. Barrio Queen opened in 2002 and since then has been serving some of the best tacos in the Valley. Some fan-favorites from Barrio Cafe include; Cochinita Pibil, Chiles en Nogada, Chef’s tableside Guacamole and Churro Rellenos.
Speedy Street Tacos

If you’re searching for a great ‘taco Tuesday’ spot, your search is over. Speedy Street Tacos offers great $2 tacos each and every Tuesday. The meat is grilled right off the street with mesquite charcoal to add extra flavor. From the juicy meat and generous portions to the outdoor seating, Speedy Street is a great ‘street spot’ for delicious tacos with cabbage, guacamole, pico de gaillo, and onions. The menu is simple but tasty. They also have a drive-thru and a breakfast burrito for those looking to grab a bite on their way into work.
Joyride Taco House

Another great place to add into your taco tuesday rotation, Joyride Taco House offers $2 tacos and $5 margaritas every Tuesday. The highlight of the menu is the chicken taco known as ‘The Standard.’ It comes with chicken (obviously), avocado, mexican slaw, and aji amarillo for an added flare of spice. The menu has an entire page dedicated to tacos in addition to the other items on the menu. The happy hour is weekdays from 2-6pm and on Taco Tuesdays runs from 2 pm until closing.
Pepe’s Taco Villa

Pepe’s has been around since the 1980s and has more than stood the test of time in an area full of taco places that seem to pop up every other day. The decor is a bit of a throwback to the 80’s as well, but the tacos are as good as any modern day Mexican restaurant, if not better. Tacos from Pepe’s come crispy or soft and have as authentic of a taste as any taco in the entire Valley.

If you thought Chipotle had good barbacoa, then you’ll be blown away by Tacos Chiwas. Named in homage of the owner’s childhood growing up in Chihuahua. The signature taco is aptly named Taco Chiwa and comes with beef, ham, jalapeno, cheese, and Anaheim chiles. The cheese all wrapped up inside a luscious, corn tortilla. Since its opening in 2016, the restaurant has gained popularity among the Mexican cuisine scene and is known for its fresh ingredients from the tortillas to the always hot and ready meats.
